Issues and plans

What are the issues?

That’s what we want you to tell us! But we’ve already identified a number of areas of concern to older LGBT people:

  • Housing and social services that listen to us
  • LGBT-friendly care homes and sheltered accommodation
  • Sensitive, informed treatment by GPs and hospitals
  • Social and emotional needs as we age
  • Awareness of our differences and need for varied options
  • Recognition of our communities in their diversity.

What is Age of Diversity going to do?

To start with:

  • Represent older LGBT people at national level (our founder, Lindsay River, has been hard at work promoting our views and needs).
  • Have a website (you're looking at it now! - but it still needs quite a bit of work).
  • Promote writing by members on older LGBT issues.

Next we aim to:

  • Send out regular mailings to members.
  • Have a UK-wide newsletter, online for those who have Internet access, and in the ordinary mail for those who don’t.
  • Develop a constitution, recruit further management committee members, and hold the first AGM.
